I major in Travel Industry Management in college so being a travel agent was a good job to have after college. Working as a travel agent has its ups and downs. Travel agents does mostly sales, promoting hotels, resort, car rental, attractions. So, if you are not good at sales, then I would not recommend this career choice. If you are good at sales, you can make good money from commissions. The biggest benefit of being a travel agent is that you get to visit or try out all the new attractions, hotels, resorts before many people do. Most of the time, your trip are either discounted or free of charge. The down side to this career is the inconsistency in the amount of money you can make from one month to another. Travel industry rely heavily on the economy or another country's economy. So when the economy is not doing well, then nobody travels, sales drop, commission drops, amount of money take home may not be the same. A lot of time, small travel agency would closed down. |
