I am currently a self employed customer service agent (part time) in inbound telephone sales. I would highly recommend anyone considering self-employment, because in this economy, it's more "stable" and despite the current state of the economy, customers are buying, especially if more people are home more and are spending more of their time doing things around the home. If you sell things that the customer can use and can see the "benefit" of it's use in the home, it's more likely to be purchased by the consumer because it's useful. Being self-employed though, has it's ups and downs as well as sales. When customers money stops coming in, so do they also stop "buying", so it's a career with an income that fluctuates. The income can be great at times, but can also be not so great at times. It's definitely a career choice that you have to be willing to be very flexible in the hours that you choose to work and that you can "survive" on money-wise during the "good" and the "bad" times. |

Interesting Fact |
In the 18th and 19th century, hatmakers used poisionous chemicals including mercury in their work. As result, many developed pathological symptons -- an estimated 10% went insane. Hence the term "mad as a hatter" and Lewis Carroll's character, the Mad Hatter. |
