The pros to my job are that I am not constantly "doing" something. It's not like a factory or customer service type job where I am literally doing something every second of the day. It's more free than that, so once I have work complete that I must do, then I basically just have to be here to wait for the next thing or to show an apartment or answer the phone. So I have normal office hours, and since I work smart as opposed to hard- I have lots of free time to read, surf the net, even watch tv. But, on the flip side to that, I have a personality that gets restless and feel unchallenged. Things are more annoying than challenging (ie. tenants with no clue how things work- constantly having to explain how an air conditioner realistically works, or that since we don't live in a bubble, sometimes you may see a spider or an ant because we all live on planet earth). The worst is when someone gets bed bugs and when people have to be evicted for nonpayment of rent. Its tough when people do fall on hard times, but in this job there is only so much responsibility you can take for other people's lives, and you can't let them live there for free. Many times people think they are entitled to the roof over their head.
I have lot of free time while at work, basically just waiting around to "put out fires". But I am also responsible for my property 24/7, so I can never turn my phone off and if there's a fire at 3am, guess where I am going.
This sort of job is very ok for people that just want a clearly defined role and are ok with really just showing apartments, taking rent payments, and being a police officer, social worker, and psychologist all in one. However, I am beyond burned out of it. I love people, I love helping people, and I love managing business- but one thing I am OVER is dealing with where people live. Many people are simply incredibly unrealistic and many lack pride in where they live and are pigs.
