I am a network administrator. First of all I like my Career vary much. In this generation, it is neccessary that every must use the internet for several reason.we can communicate the person who can anywhere in the world threw the internet.Use several search engines for searching. surely I would recommend this career. people should know " anything we can get while sitting in our house threw the internet".

yes this is a good career and will highly appriciate those people who want to join this career. But before staring this career you have to get enough knowledge about computers and networks. yes i will choose this career again and again if i had to do over again. people should know about the networks that how to deals with networks then they should choose this career. i really enjoy this work because every day with the new sun learn a new thing from this career.

This is good career with a lots of challenges waiting for you. If you do not like routine jobs or the limelight, this is the job for you. When the systems under you are performing smoothly, you can sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labour. However, if thing are not going fine, you will really have to crack you head and analyze the scenario carefully. You may have to work overtime and beyond office hours from time to time. You may need to be contactable 24-by-7. In this line, you will need to keep up with the latest technology and peer networking will certainly help you with some head-start in problem solving.

I like that this current job basically revolves around computers. Anyone who loves computers should go into this field. Most environments, including my own, are 100% Microsoft, but there are a few smaller companies that choose to go the route of open source/ GNU Linux based systems. I love networking, and we have a plethora of networking equipment to play with... I mean work on, including everything from Cisco routers and switches, down to fiber - ethernet converters. I would defintely recommend this career, especially because we are only going to see an increase in jobs in this field. I would definetly still choose this career if I had to do it again. People might not know that we in the Networking/Systems administration field actually have a life!! It's a stereotypical misconception that we don't. There are no cons, except having to sit in front of a desk 40+ hours a week :)

Consider taking certification to prove that you really know what your networking stuff. This is particularly useful if you are a fresh graduate or has no experience yet in the field.

This career choice, including all of IT, demands a discipline of constantly achieving new knowledge to remain abreast of the latest technologies to not only be successful at your position, and to advance in that position, but to also increase your skill set and gain recognition with certifications in whichever flavor of the IT field you are pursuing. Therefore, if you do not like to read, and read a lot of publications and textbooks, then this career path may not be for you. The pay scale has been a bit of a roller coaster, but for the most part has been and remains positive. It seems that each new technology that gets shifted overseas has some residuals that come back, or a new door will open because of that offering support stateside. Overall I am pleased with this career choice and it has had more than a positive effect on my family and myself.

My current career is in computer repair. I fix everyones PC's for some money sometimes. I had to get my A+ certificate which was fairly easy.. The hardest part of this job is mainly the fact that you have to sometimes teach other people what you know to some extent.. and some people do not understand PCs too well at all.. The pay is good, and the job is fun too if you love tinkering with PCs like myself.

After working in computer networking for several years, I would not trade it for any other 40-hour-a-week career. This career allows one to stay on the cutting-edge of technology, access new and varied gadgets and systems, and it pays well. The work is challenging, but engages the mind. People interested in pursuing this career should excel at pattern-matching, abstract reasoning, troubleshooting, and should as well have a strong grasp of mathematics. While a computer science degree is not a necessity, it may be helpful to have one as they generally cover the mathematics and reasoning skills necessary to do the job. A definite disadvantage to this career is that many positions are paid a salary, not an hourly wage, and often may include off-hours work, on-call rotations, and a pager that can and will interrupt one's private life.

This is nice job. U can be in everyday contact with people. That is nice at least for me. One advice...u have to have patience whit some people that u might meet in this line of work, because some people have less knowledge then U in this work and some things aren't clear to them as they are to u!!! In this line of work u have to always be in track with latest in PC world, u have to have a lot of practice to be good, it's not everything in theory. If had to choose again I would choose this career. Today, everybody have a PC and will always need help of someone like us so this is perspective job!!!! What else to say.... nothing.. this is great job! I realy like it!!!

Work in a growing job is terrific. It is stimulating and challenging to one who has interest and resourceful ambition. Work in a stagnant or diminishing job is horrible. You can sit and monitor the same old systems that have been running for years almost hoping something, anything, will fail and give you something to do.

This job is fine if you dont mind the constant nagging of systems with issues and the 3am calls. The pay sucks and the hours are long, I would only recommend this field to someone who really enjoys electronics.

I like my occupation but there is a lot of burnout to it. On the positive side, you get to help people solve their computer problems and there is a sense of satisfaction when you're able to save the day on the spot. When new projects come up it causes you to flex the creative muscles of your mind and I enjoy that aspect of the job.

On the negative side, you will normally be a revenue depleting as apposed to a revenue generating employee. Performance bonuses are hard to come by as it's hard to measure how a good system administrator performs vs a bad one. Also, every call is a problem about something. Some things are genuine problems that only you can try to solve while a majority of them are simple user error. Unlike salesman, lawyers or other careers, you can't say "well, I finished everything I needed to do for today by 1pm so I'm headed home". I almost always get a phone call 2 minutes before I'm about to head out the door.

Unless you work in a tech-heavy industry, don't expect your coworkers to understand your point of view. Large enterprises with huge IT organizations can be a great place to cut your teeth, but I've found smaller operations to generally be less stressful work environments. By far, the single greatest factor is how well you relate to the people you work closest with on a daily basis.

I absolutely love being a network admin-- but a very important factor in how much you will enjoy this line of work is the company you work for. My employer gives me tremendous freedom, ample resources, and the power to solve computer problems in any way I see fit, just as long as the problem gets solved. I am allowed to work with a mixed network of Windows, Mac, DOS and Linux. I am allowed to use open-source software whenever appropriate, and there are no requirements on what programming languages I write code in. I can imagine this job being a lot less fun (and a lot less productive) if I worked for a tightwad who wouldn't pay for new equipment, or for a control freak who insisted that I use only the tools and software that they were already familiar with. I strongly reccomend this career to anyone who has a strong understanding of computers and a deep love for problem-solving. But do screen your employers, if you have the luxury of doing so.

My advice would be to make sure you have as much knowledge as possible and be prepared for anything. I would recommend this career if this is what you like to do. If you like to be around computers and networks all day long, than this is the career for you. I'd also make sure if you want to make money you find a job in a city area. You won't make out well in a rural area.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably still stick with this career. The pros include: the possibility of a lot of flexibility, the possibility of running into new and exciting things. The cons include: the possibility of getting bored easily and doing the same routine thing every day.

My career is generally very fulfilling. I have worked with lots of different types of people, and within many different types of organizations. People considering this career should be aware that most of us have some kind of on-call rotation and potentially extensive travel involved.
