i am very happy with the career i've chosen. some of the best things about it is that i get to work at home or in my studio and i have lots of flexibility with my schedule. i'm free to work when i want for how long i want and most of all, i get to DO what i want. one of the downfalls of being and independent artist though is that it is not a good source of reliable income. i never know from month to month how much money i will be making. i wouldn't change the way it is though. my advice for people who are thinking about pursuing their artistic endeavors is just to have a lot of confidence in yourself and work very very hard. you have to keep up a level of integrity and not expect to be rich and famous. as for me, i would never choose a different career.
There's no money in being a fine artist. I recommend it to people who are driven to do it. I would likely choose to do this again. Pros are that you get to express your vision. Cons: no money. What people should know about this career is that it actually pays to be a very savvy business person, self-promoter, and it's crucial to be driven, driven, driven.
This is a career built over a lifetime that I would recommend to anyone with patience, and who is not out for immediate income. I love being an artist, as it allows me to create on my terms, what I feel at the moment, without being held to someone else's standards!
