I recommend that anyone interested in a career in television and film to start early. Write as much as you can. Get a video camera and shoot as much as you can. Edit as much as you can. Just practice a lot. I would also hightly recommend an undergraduate degree in film or tv. That's not really necessary, but it helps to give you a jump start once you graduate.
I would highly recommend a career in film and video editing for anyone who is motivated and creative. It can be a very rewarding career path.
If I had the chance to do it all over again, I would most definitely choose this career path again. I love what I do. I can't imagine doing anything else.
The major pro of film and video editng is that you are allowed to be creative. It's a great way to express yourself. You are also allowed the opportunity to work with some incredibly talented people. In my opinion, the cons are few, but there are some. The hours can be extreemely long and the work quite demanding.
The great thing about a career in film and tv is that there are so many options. There's major motion picture studios, network television stations, independent films, cable telivision, public television, local television, community media stations, educational television, private production companies, corporate video....there are so many opportunities out there!
