If you are planning on working in Hollywood, be prepared to work an insane amount of hours. It is expected that you put in a lot of overtime. Everybody is in a hurry and needs it now. And this fast pace never really lets up. You have to be quick and be able to pump out quality product. Otherwise they'll find somebody new. Producers and directors change editors like they change underwear. Its fun if you are into the fast paced lifestyle. Not so good if you have a family and wish to spend quality time with them. Good money if you are seasoned and good at what you do. Lousy money if you are new to the scene. It takes time to build a reputation.
Not a career for everyone. You will really have t love your job and what you do more then anything else in life. Slightly competitive, but if you are good a job can be made
I would strongly recommend this career!!! It is extremely rewarding and challenging and if film and video interests you then it is also fun. Given the choice again I would still choose this career. Even though there were times in college I questioned whether I was heading in the right direction, I soon found a job I loved working on a popular TV show in the Los Angeles area. Although the hours can be long and deadlines demanding, I am ultimately pleased with the outcome and seeing my efforts on the small screen. I urge people who are interested in TV/video and computing/electronics to give this a go and stick with it though the tough times. It will be well worth it in the long run. The pay is very good but that is not what primarily drives me. I enjoy the work and seeing my efforts on the small screen. I strongly recommend this as a career choice for annyone interested.
