I'm an events organiser specialising in concert promotions. I work with up and coming unsigned artists as well as bands on the international touring circuit. I'm also involved in the promotion and organisation of other types of event in the sports and entertainment industries. There are many benefits to this job. I am my own boss and have a level of personal freedom which suits my lifestyle and allows me to follow my other interests. I've met a lot of interesting people and have formed some close friendships, and of course I've had a lot of fun when events go well. The downside is that the workload is intense and I stand the constant risk of losing money on an event. This has been a fairly rare occurrance, but it's devastating when an event I've put a lot of effort into doesn't go as I'd planned. Ultimately I'm happy with my job. It's stressful, it's time consuming and it doesn't offer the kind of financial stability that 9-5 work does, but at the same time it's challenging, exciting and never boring.

I work as a screenwriter in the film business. This is a terrifc career for anyone who loves movies and storytelling. If I had to do it again I would. A degree in film or writting isn't neccessary but doing your homework is. Read scripts, read books on screenwriting and most importantly, watch lots of movies. Watching how others do it and coming up with stories that people want to here is the key. The pros include working with other creative people at the top of their game and even, sometimes, experiencing the glitter of hollywood. The cons come from the freelance nature of the work. It can be feast or famine and you have to be willing to work alone for stretches and weather the dry periods until the next project comes along.

I'm a professional musician and a music teacher. My advice for working in the music and music education field is not to do it unless you really have a heart for it. Being a musician doesn't necessarily mean being rich, even though making an ok living is very possible. Doing music for a life is the biggest positive for me. I'm glad i did it. As far as cons,I wish it paid more. The one thing people need to know about the world of music is that, as a musician, music should be viewed as a product like in the business world, not just something you love.
