Psychology, General:

I had a hard time deciding what major to pick and actually switched twice. The reason I ended up going with Psychology (and doubled it with Sociology) was because I knew I would always be working with people no matter what kind of field I would end up in. The classes of the Psy/Soc major are interesting in that you discuss and learn about why people do or act in certain ways. Within the field you can narrow down to the biological brain functioning or the abnormal disorders people have or even head into the counseling direction. I enjoy learning about people and meeting people and felt this was a good fit. The cons of choosing this major is that if you want to go into a psychology job, you're pretty much going to have to get at least a Masters Degree, if not a Doctorate.

Psychology, General:

In my experience I have found this major to be very beneficial in both my personal and professional life. This major is general enough that you can use it in almost any profession where working with others whether it be co-workers or customers that are concerned. Majoring in psychology does not limit one to working in the field of clinical psychology. It ties in very well with sales, marketing, law enforcement, management, human resources, and any number of professions. The possiblities are really almost endless.

I would highly recommend this as a major for someone who is unsure of where they would like to be professionally or to someone who would like flexibility as far as careers are concerned.

I would definitely choose this as a major again.

One downside to this major is that you may ocassionally have to explain the versatility of this degree to employers who do not see it as applicable to anything but clinical work. If you can express the broad applicability of your knowlege base however you will have no trouble convincing them that you're the perfect one for the job you're seeking.

Psychology, General:

I started out as an English major, but then I took an introductory Psychology class, and I was hooked. It's a fascinating subject, but it can be difficult at times. If you're going to be a psychology major, you have to want to help people in some way, because that's the primary focus of the field. If you don't like people, you should pick a different major. If I had to do it all over again, I would have picked Psychology from the beginning, rather than starting with English. The pros are that you get to take a lot of classes with varying concentrations (children, adults, engineering, health, etc.) and you get to learn about the human mind. The con is that there aren't many well-paying jobs open to people with just an undergraduate degree - you pretty much have to go on to get at least a master's degree (and preferably a doctorate degree) in order to get a really good job.
