Cell / Cellular and Molecular Biology:
Cell and molecular biology was one of two of my majors, and I wouldn't recommend it as part of a double major - if you're going to focus on biology, you need to do it all the way. If I had to do it all over again, I would have focused on one major (probably my other major,) and devoted all of my resources to it.
If I chose biology, I would strongly recommend getting into research as early as possible, and fostering relationships with professors so you can work in their labs. Depending on the university, the requirements for a biology degree may either be extremely strict and limiting, or very open to individualization. I would recommend considering that when applying to colleges and universities.
All in all, I would say that biology is great for those who thoroughly enjoy it, but some parts of the degree (especially organic chemistry) can be a nightmare, and they just keep recurring. |
