Fine / Studio Arts, General:
One of the benefits of being a studio art major was the ability to develop critical thinking skills while working independently on creative projects. I learned a great deal about problem solving, networking, and time management through this major. I would highly recommend studying studio art to anyone who has an interest in the making of art work, and in contemporary artists. However, for individuals mainly interested in the history or theory of art, I would recommend pursuing an art history intensive course of study.
Having a degree in studio art has had a number of benefits. It has allowed me to gain employment in a variety of fields, including corporate graphic design, retail display design, and non-profit organizations. The downside to having this degree is that many people assume it was a "soft" degree, providing very few skills necessary to work in the "real world." This is not true, but it is a prejudice that you encounter when you present a degree in studio art. |
