As a woman, I found this field of study to be a great stepping stone for me, a door opener and a background that prepared me for my career as an estimator. The hands-on learning is essential for those who feel unchallenged or uninterested in book studies. I took many different skills and references with me into the related field where I have worked for almost nine years. This major gave me a firm footing and credentials in a traditionally man's world. The downside is that my degree is an A.A.S, whcih is considered technical rather than an arts degree, so other employers may view it as less than what is needed in a corporate setting. Fortunately, it is more than enough where I work and is a benefit to fall back on when I look for work in the future.
