Mathematics, General:
Although general mathematics does not train specifically for a certain career. It shows to employers that one can think logically and critically. If one enjoys solving problems over writing than math is definitely for them.

It is because of a college advisor who suggested that I major in Math that I was hired right out of college for an agency in Washington, DC and began a 45 year career that has taken me around the world and given me a life's work that has been challenging and rewarding. If a person has the mind for it, I would highly recommend a major in Mathematics. If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely choose this major. The cons are that it is a difficult major and the most people who major in in are studious with no time for fun. The pros are that there are many career avenues after college.

Mathematics, General:
Take real analysis first to see some "real" math. A math major is about proofs, not computations. But if you are interested at all in problem solving, I would recommend looking into this major.

Mathematics, General:
Mathematics is a challenging field, but a very rewarding field. As a math major, you need to have facility with numbers and numerical concepts, but also patience and good problem solving skills. I work now in software development, and the process of developing a mathematical proof is very similar to the process of developing software, at least at an intellectual level. There are many career opportunities in mathematics, in academia, the hard sciences, the social sciences, and in finance. The one negative I always mention is that it is near impossible to explain what mathematics is about to a nonmath major.

Mathematics, General:
Mathematics isn't for everyone, but is very intellectually rewarding. Unlike a lot of majors, there are truly right and wrong answers in mathematics, without a lot of ambiguity. It requires logical thought, patience, and creativity. I work now in computer programming, and the exercise of creating a mathematical proof is very similar to developing a computer program. Beyond computer work, there is mathematicians have opportunities in social sciences, hard science, and finance. The only negative is that it is often impossible to explain what the major is about to a nonmajor.

I love this major, but you have to really love math. I would do it again. Th prs is that if you like math, you'll be doing it for a long time, but if you don't, it's not going to be fun.

Mathematics, General:
You had better possess good logic and critical thinking if you consider this major.Mathematics covers linear algebra, probability, discrete mathematics, calculus and so on.These courses are good for developing your brain. In most cases, you enjoy yourself in this abstract context, I recommend studying this and I will still choose this major if I can do that.It is very easy for you to get a job in schools or universities if you have a relevant degree, but it is somewhat difficult to work in enterprises. In other words, comparatively this major has limited employment range.

Mathematics, General:
I have taken mathematics in my Major. My humble advise for the students to take mathematics as main subject they must be a cleaver and intelligent. Without mathematics nothing in our life. When you are seeing the subject it may look like hard but when you study in details and the correct procedure of studies it is very easy to learn. Mathematics is the basic for all the subjects.
So I wish the students those who take mathematics as the main subject they must be in top in their area
I wish you all the best for the students

For those who plan to pursue this course, I say you are in the right track. As long as your interest is with this subject i am sure you'll make it till the end. This is a good course. You will have lots of opportunities after you finish this course and i strongly recommend this to others too. if i could go back in time i will still choose this course. The positive thing of having this major is you will end up with lots of opportunities after you are done. The negative thing? None so far with my experience.

I have a B.S. in Mathematics and have completed graduate work in addition to my M.S. degree in Mathematics. I would definitely major in math again if I had to go back and relive my college experience.
Majoring in math is not for people who don't really want to dedicate themselves to their work. Mathematics is a tough field, but it is very rewarding. First of all, mathematics majors complete their educational program with a strong work ethic and top notch critical thinking skills. I don't think I know of a single person who seriously studied math that can't think in a logical manner.
If you plan to study math, plan to spend a lot of time immersed in math problems and textbooks. There is no substitute for working problems to learn. Unlike many subjects, you cannot simply read the book to learn math you have to be actively engaged in the work.
I have found that my math degree has opened many doors for me. I am currently a college professor (yes, teaching math). I have also been able to do a good bit of freelance work, I have written articles about education and math education, and I have taught part time for several online schools. I have always been able to make a good living using my degree.

My degree is in Actuarial Science. I think this is a great major for someone who is looking into mathematics and does not want to teach. It is very well rounded in that you will take various probability and statistics classes and have a minor in business with the insurance and finance classes you have to take. With that said it is very hard and since the major is so specific to actuaries, you need to make sure that is what you absolutely what you want to do and put more than 100% into it. You have to pass a series of tests to become an actuary which are quite difficult. I have yet to pass any tests and have not been able to find a related job even though I have take a well rounded curriculum in college. that would be the downside but if that is truely what you are looking for then it's a great major!

Mathematics, General:
This is an excellent major for people who enjoy thinking clearly and critically and analyzing problems carefully. Highly recommended. I would do it again. In the present world, there is much demand for people who can make quantitative models and use them effectively ( Yahoo, Google, many financial institutions, etc). Demand for such people will likely only increase in the future. Few cons. One might be that still few people in society understand what mathematics is and what mathematicians can do for society.

I did my major as general mathematics. Here is where I get to learn lot of things in mathematics.I came to know about the scientific application of mathematic.I could learn all this thing because I was interested in this subject. So,please a choose a major subject according to your liking.

Mathematics, General:
I highly encourage any student considering math as a field of study to go for it! It not only teaches you math, but also teaches you to think in a logical and rational manner, and also prepares you for the future with problem solving skills.

Statistics, General:
I would say this is an excellent major if you love mathematics. I do need to warn you that the career prospects in this major are not always strong, but I would do it again if I had the chance. The Master's degree doesn't take very long to obtain, but there are several thesis tests required on top of classwork and supervising undergraduates.

Mathematics, General:
I have always loved maths, I loved it while I was studying, and I hope I will always love it. It's all I want to do for the rest of my life! But even if you're not as enthusiastic as me (WHY?!) maths is a pretty useful thing to know, and can open a lot of doors careerwise.

Applied Mathematics:
This is a great major. If you have a desire to work in an academic position and solve realworld problems using Math this is the major for you. There are always jobs for mathematicians and the applied ones don't have nearly as few opportunities professionally as the pure mathematicians.
If your are good with numbers and computers and enjoy math. I feel that an applied math major is a good choice.

Applied Mathematics:
A good major for people who are strongly mathematically inclined, but don't get fufillment from purely theoretical mathematics. This major, can lead to a future in statisitcs, engineering, and will even give you a lot of the problem solving tools needed for law school. All in all a very versitile degree.

Computational Mathematics:
I worked on both Math and Computer science and that was tough. One thing I would definately look for is being able to see how the math can be used practically within the CS field. I am now purusing my masters in computer science and seeing how to apply the math has definitely sparked my interest.

Applied Mathematics:
I always say that pure mathematicians prove theorems and applied mathematicians solve problems. Two of the major misconceptions about applied math are (a) that it's all number crunching and (b) that it's stats. Those two things play a part in applied math, but there are plenty of applied mathematicians who never program (I'm one) and who never use stats. Applied math is essentially "theoretical science", so if you like science and want to do theory rather than experiments, applied math is your home.
