Spanish Language and Literature:
If you are going to major Spanish or any foreign language, make sure that you love it first. You will be doing a lot of reading, writing, talking and travelling, and so it's important that you enjoy the language, or it could work a number on your psyche.
You should also consider what kind of job you would like to have when you graduate. There is not always a lot you can do with a B.A. in Spanish, but it is a solid degree that will get you in the door of any number of companies, and speaking a foreign language is always a bonus on resumes.
I would only recommend studying Spanish if you personally love it, not for a specific career. I would still choose this major, though, because it has been an important part of my development as a person.
The biggest con of this major is that you either have to go on to a higher degree or have some other major or interest that you can look for work in. If you have a double major, Spanish is the bonus, not the bread & butter.
The best part of studying Spanish is that you learn to communicate with a large portion of the people of the world. |
