Psychology, General:
I started out as an English major, but then I took an introductory Psychology class, and I was hooked. It's a fascinating subject, but it can be difficult at times. If you're going to be a psychology major, you have to want to help people in some way, because that's the primary focus of the field. If you don't like people, you should pick a different major. If I had to do it all over again, I would have picked Psychology from the beginning, rather than starting with English. The pros are that you get to take a lot of classes with varying concentrations (children, adults, engineering, health, etc.) and you get to learn about the human mind. The con is that there aren't many well-paying jobs open to people with just an undergraduate degree - you pretty much have to go on to get at least a master's degree (and preferably a doctorate degree) in order to get a really good job. |
