Computer Programming / Programmer, General:

My advice: skip this and any major that can be outsourced. Stick to majors that require face-to-face contact such as doctor, psychologist, lawyar. If I had to do it over again, I would not choose this major. See above. Pros: High Pay, interesting work for techies like me. Cons: Liable to be outsourced, and this will just become MORE, not less prevalent. Isolating career. Generally, overworked.

Computer Science:

The major at my college was worthless. I didn't even bother to complete it. I should've taken an MIS major. This degree hasn't helped me at all, because I wasn't even able to complete it. Anyone who wants to program for real, MIS is the way to go. CS is boring theory garbage that doesn't really help in the real world.

Computer Science:

Computer science is a great major if you're into computers. For me, I studied it because I really like games and wanted to make my own. Some courses weren't very important, such as all the calculus I had to take. There are also some subjects that are generally useless, such as writing a compiler or programming in assembly, which is something not very common in the real world. Still, it's a great career if you do like programming, and you can get a good paying job when you graduate.

Computer Systems Networking and Telecommunications:

If you like working with computers, computer hardware, electronics, hands-on stuff, you would like this major. For people considering this major you don't have to know a lot about computers for this major. Just make sure that you study not only the material in the college books, but also study in your own time on computer topics that you don't much about. Most of your learning will come from hands-on and experience with computers. I would recommend choosing this major because every year that goes by the world is becoming more reliant on computers. Everyday the world relies on computers. The internet could not exist without computers and networking. If I had to do it over again, I would still choose the same major. The pros of this degree is that you will be very knowledgeable with computers networking and hardware: the basics, fundamentals, basic networking protocols of networks and the internet,computer terminology and acronyms, and troubleshooting in an Information Technology Environment. The Cons of this major is that you have to remain up-to-date in your knowledge. The IT industry is very competitive and you have to remain competitive by diversifying your knowledge into more fields such as hardware, software and computer certifications. Gaining certification will take a lot of time and especially the Microsoft Certifications are some of the hardest to get.

Computer and Information Systems Security:

This course of study is very demanding, yet very rewarding. All the time spent busting your balls will pay off when it comes to securing a postition in the job market. In this field you literally get what you put in.

Computer Science:

If you want to learn about programming, it's an amazing major to take. Be prepared for a lot of math though, which is why some students tend to take other computer related majors. Since the .com boom is over, don't expect an amazing career right out of college like you could have had 10 years ago.

Do the major if you really care about computers (applied or theory). Don't do it if you're just after a high-paying job. It's not easy to complete it, at least from a reputable college.

Computer Programming, Other:

Computer Science is a good field to study. You need a strong mathematical background. It does sometime involve long nights, sitting at a computer. It also involves more theoretical work than does a computer application course of study. I would recommend combining computer science with some kind of business degree to prepare yourself for a good career.

There are not very many good jobs in computer programming, per se, but a computer science degree will serve you well in whatever field you work.

Computer Science:

The computer science major is very broad. It includes preparation for programming, design, database, networking and research. Since it is broad, you have to focus on concentrating your efforts on something yourself in order to be prepared for a job when you are done. Once you have this mental focus, some of the required courses seem irrelevant.

I think it's a good idea to study Computer Science. You can find a good job after school and earn good money. Computers are everywhere so there will be always work for IT personell. If I had to do it again I would still choose that major because Computer Science is very interesting.

Computer Engineering Technologies / Technicians, Other:

Computer engineering is a well-rounded major for those who have a genuine interest in computers. It combines a variety of disciples which include electrical engineering and computer science.

If you are interested in learning about computers in a well-rounded major, computer engineering is for you. You will combine knowledge from a variety of feels which will ultimately make you desirable in the so-called "real world" and will feel like you have a great grasp of the subject matter. It will take some work to get a degree in this major, but it's definitely worth it!
