  Williams very much has the feeling of a small community. This means that you will be aquainted with most of the members of your class and a large portion of the rest of the school. It means you can easily have a one-on-one relationship with almost any professor. However, if you like meeting new people all the time or being anonymous, this is probably not the place for you. The Bershires are beautiful, but the Winter is long and fairly harsh. Most prospective students visit in the Spring when it is nice out. Be very aware that during the largest portion of the school year, the weather is not so good.

  I wanted to find a school that was small, beautiful, and strongly academic; Williams was all I wanted and more. The average entering class is about 500, and in my 4 years I never had a class with more than 15 people. There are a ton of research opportunities; I went on researc trips to Mexico, the Grand Canyon, and the Caribbean, and spent two summers doing independent research. In discussion classes, you'll hear people who really, seriously, Know What They Are Talking About, and outside of the classes you'll see them running with the track team or playing in the string ensemble. Students are unimaginably well-rounded; I hardly know anyone who wasn't active in three or four distinct organizations, and, more importantly, they're passionate about it.
