UConn was a great school. Especially as an in state student, the education you get is the best value for your money out there. The faculty were all helpful and engaged with the students in my experience, and there are virtually unlimited resources available to help the adjusting student. Social organizations of every stripe are there to help create bonds between students that can last a lifetime. Along with the great education in the classroom, a student can really get the whole college experience, with great sports teams to root for, and lots of parties to mix at. I recommend the University of Connecticut very highly to anyone who is looking for the best of everything college is supposed to offer.

This University is in the middle of nowhere so extra-curricular activities are pretty self-contained. There are entertainment, food, and beautiful landscapes nearby (and cows, if you're interested). There is a mall not too far from campus (if you have access to a car). Overall, it's big but has lots of resources. If you're able to self-advocate and really get involved, then it has a lot to offer. You have to make sure you don't let yourself fall between the cracks. It also helps to connect with other students on campus and make a social life there so you're not stuck with cow-watching or frat parties.

I definitely would recommend this college. The only reason I don't like it is because it's in the middle of nowhere, and unless you're partying on weekends, there's not much to do. I definitely think I'm getting a good education however. Most of the teachers I've had have been great. Though they don't always remember your name in your earlier classes (as you get older and choose a major/concentration, your classes get smaller), the TAs generally are good at getting to know the students.

The people aren't bad either, there's a nice mix of all kinds of people. There are tons of student organizations to get involved in. There is also a great Community Outreach department if you would like to get involved that way.

Residence Halls could be better. You either get great housing or you get screwed (and the good housing is EXPENSIVE.) There's also a lottery for seniors who'd like to live on campus. Many of them have been kicked off this year. But at least you're guarenteed 6 semesters of housing, which is more than most colleges.

I loved that UCONN was a big school so there was always so much stuff to do on campus. Additionally, there was a large variety of majors and classes to choose from and the facilities/buildings are great. They are still renovating, but most of the buildings are now fairly new and beautiful. Also, I liked that UCONN had greek life since I was a part of a sorority and I feel like it was one of the best decisions I made during college when I decided to join.

When you first arrive on campus, you will notice that there is not much to look at - a lot of trees, grass, and cows. However, the campus itself is amazing. Mirror lake is often featured in brochures of the school, and during the spring and fall it offers a very peaceful area to lay out in the sun and study. The new addition to the Student Union provides students with increased options of food if they ever feel nostalgic and want to grab a Wendy's burger or some quality Chinese food from Panda Express. The school also provides for campus-wide wireless internet, so you can study anywhere on campus that you feel comfortable. For incoming freshmen, residency is going to play a huge part of your first-year experience. You definitely want to try to live in Northwest, because it offers an area of campus that is available to only freshman, and students in the area are all new to college and can share their experiences with each other, and these similarities can play an important factor in making new friends. All in all, this is a great school to attend. Of course it is the biggest party school (probably in the world) but that has toned down a bit. Police are always in full force on the weekends to keep students safe, but that still doesn't mean that the students can't have a good time. If partying isn't your thing, then there are a million other things to do on campus that you can do to keep yourself busy. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants to pursue an excellent academic education and also maintain a balance in their social life.

Good school, too big. You might not know that in the winter the Storrs campus feels like the tundra, frigid cold, and you have to walk a mile or more in some cases to get to class. At 8:00AM. Leaving earlier in a howling blizzard can be daunting and also give you pneumonia and make you feel like never leaving your room again. Which happened to me and it wasn't any fun for awhile there. I wouldn't go back, but I would choose a university in florida or nevada instead, you'll still learn as much I think and not freeze to death. On the other hand, there are some excellent winter sports to enjoy, and excellent teams to root on as well. There is a lot of campus spirit, and a good art department. It is good, but hard to meet people on a big campus. Be sure that is what you want. CU2418B
