Go somewhere else! The administration is more interested in getting high rankings than actually doing a good job. We have been instructed by the administration to rate the school highly otherwise we won't do well in rankings (US News & World Report, Wall Street Journal, Business Week, etc). The school doesn't care about students but rather is more interested in growing the endowment (again, related to rankings). Professors are quite arrogant and not very intelligent. The students are completely unoriginal (this much is evidenced by the 40% acceptence rate of the school) and not very intelligent at all.
Hyde Park (just south of Chicago) is one of the worst areas in the country. You can't walk outside at night alone (as you can do in New York, Providence, San Francisco, and even downtown Chicago) because you will be either mugged, raped, or beaten. It seems that every night that there is some sort of serious crime that happens on campus. When the number of crimes goes up, the site where the incidents are reported mysteriously stops working, which is not a coincidence.
The bookstore is owned by Barnes and Nobles, which means that it is thoroughly over-expensive. Some professors choose not to use a textbook. Instead, they use readings from various journals and websites, etc. All of these articles are compiled into a coursepack which are then sold to students. We understand that we have to pay for the copyright fees. However, what we don't understand is why Barnes and Nobles doubles the price of the coursepack and claims that they need to do this because the coursepacks occupy significant shelf space. They should not be charging that much and making a 100% profit on the coursepacks.
This is probably one of the most dishonest and money-oriented universities in the country. DO NOT GO HERE!!! |
