This is a great school if you're passionate about academic work. You'll study your tail off, and you'll be surrounded by students and professors who are enthusiastic about learning. Reed is serious about the liberal arts, too, so it's a great place if you like both science and the humanities.
Reed is a small school, 1200 students or so, and it can feel claustrophobic after several months of seeing the same faces every day. Some programs are pretty thin, with only two or three professors. You'll get to know them well, but if your interests don't match theirs, you'll feel out of place.
Left-wing politics rule the campus, and so does a certain "angst and stress are cool" pressure. On the other hand, Reed is a haven for quirky and eccentric students. You'll find it pretty easy to know after a visit to Reed if it's for you. |
