Marquette was founded in 1881 and was named after Father Jacques
Marquette, S.J.. The school attained its status as a university in 1907. In 1912, the relatively young Marquette became the
first co-ed Jesuit university.
In the last 20 years, the number of students enrolled in college who are at least 35 years old has doubled.
