This school is a "work hard, play hard" environment. The greek life rules the social scene and is mainly jewish. Many students do not realize this before attending Duke.
As a science major I thought one of the best things about Duke was opportunities to conduct cutting edge research under the guidance of professors and graduate students. I was committed to gaining great research experience and Duke provided me with that better than a smaller private school or a huge public school could have. Socially I was a little less happy with Duke. Proviledged students were definitely over represented at Duke. Eventually I found a group that I felt comfortable with in PWILD, a backpacking club. Academically Duke was everything I wanted though.
Chancellors at the College of William and Mary have included some very famous retired statesmen, including Margaret Thatcher (UK Prime Minister), Henry Kissinger (US Secretary of State), Warren E. Burger (US Chief Justice), and, currently, Sandra Day O'Connor (US Associate Justice).
