Appalachian isn't a big Greek college. Look out for other social events when you begin attending; people here are very friendly and love the great outdoors. I recommend ASU because it's a down-to-earth and beautiful place, right smack in the middle of the NC Blue Ridge mountains. The professors are approachable, and classes tend to be smaller than at bigger colleges, such UNC-Chapel Hill. Pros of attending this college: Friendly, easy to adjust to, beautiful, good academics. Cons: Not as challenging academically as some other colleges, such as UNC-Chapel Hill. Also, if you don't like long, cold winters, you may want to reconsider. What people may not have heard: It's a really beautiful place. It's only eight miles from Blowing Rock, NC, which is a thriving resort town. |

I absolutely loved this college. It's in the mountains, so there's a beautiful backdrop to your education. The teachers were very good, and most of the ones I met were more than willing to help you if you were struggling. I am proud to say that I went to this college, and I hope my little sister chooses to go to this college when she graduates this year. If I could, I'd go back in a second. The best thing I liked about it was the coffee shop on campus, which was perfect for studying, meeting friends, or just reading a book.
I'd advise prospective students to walk the campus, following their daily route to their classes, the bookstore, the cafeterias, the coffee shop, and anywhere else they'd like to go. All of the people I met were friendly and more than happy to point the way if they could, but shortcuts are easier to find with experience, and it saves tons of time when you're ready to actually go to class. |
