I graduated in '89 with a B.A. in Business and in '95 with an MBA. The school has changed tremendously since then, growing like crazy. The new student union just opened, and it's amazing. Football is due to start there in 2011--finally! The alumni association holds frequent events. The quality of the programs has only increased since I graduated with doctorates added just a few years ago. Their architecture program is considered top-notch. Several friends have earned their Master's in Teaching there and loved the program. During my tenure, I found the business professors enthusiastic about their areas of expertise. While a grad student, I worked for a couple marketing professors as a Teaching Assistant, which was a great experience overall. The school has been a full-fledged university for less than 40 years, yet it's well on its way to becoming an outstanding research university. I would probably enjoy being a student there now better than I did 20 years ago because the campus has great new buildings, better athletic facilities, and expanded programs drawing better students. |

I really don't think that, given the choice, I'd return to UNCC. Charlotte itself is a small town that wants to be a big city, and it seems as if the school is disorganized and, frankly, short on cash. I started off in the business department, which was THE worst organized I have ever seen... the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. The administration was not friendly, with the exception of the Dean of Student Services, and a lot of the professors were adjunct, so you never quite know what to expect. There are services available for tutoring, etc., but a lot of it is income based, which makes it difficult for students with a job to "get ahead" in studies. |
