If you're looking for a close community, with lots of opportunity for outdoor adventures, thought provoking conversation, and a great learning experience in and out of classrooms, you should definitely check out Humboldt State University. Called "Hills and Stairs University" by it's students, Humboldt State is a beautiful campus filled with very intelligent and caring professors who always have time to meet with you. This college is known for it's forestry, fisheries, and other natural resource programs, and has it's own research vessel (R/V Coral Sea) that is dedicated completely to undergraduate research to further prepare students for professional work. HSU also has a great music and art program. HSU is suffering the same as all the other colleges in the California State University system due to state budget cuts, but the quality of education hasn't diminished. Definitely check it out, I wouldn't go anywhere else.
