Elon University is a wonderful institution for certain types of students. For those who are very outgoing, competitive, and goal oriented, Elon is definitely for you. Elon is the epitome of balancing work and fun. The students who are extremely passionate about their education do not let that become the factor that defines them. Everyone is down to earth, likes to have a good time, and is very approachable/friendly. Yes, Elon does have a large Greek scene, but it is not alienating. Students are not allowed to go greek until their second semester, so you have a very broad friend/connection base prior to affiliating, which allows greeks and non-greeks to network and get along quite well. If you look at reviews of Elon's academics and prestige that are more than two to three years old, disregard them completely. Elon's rapid rise to the top of academic success is so noteworthy that books have been written about it--ten years ago, Elon was a last resort regional school that had absolutely no positive rankings. Now, Elon is the number 2 masters level university in the south and will no doubt be number one within the next 3-5 years. The beauty of the campus is unrivaled, and is getting more impressive literally by the day. New state of the art facilities are opening every few months with numerous more in planning stages. The actual campus itself is astounding: a designated botanical garden, Elon boasts colonial/georgian style buildings that date back to the 1800's, and all new buildings are designed in the same manner to blend perfectly. Elon is a very cultural school with a full cultural calendar...guest speakers have included Margaret Thatcher, desmund tutu, and arund gandhi. |
