I strongly recommend Cornell University to prospective students. Its campus is great! There are lots of social activities and not to mention the quality of the education. It has enough funds to support new projects and students.

Great school with a good reputation. Party scene is all frats. However, out of Ivy League has mix of still being fun while studious at the same time

I attended New York University my freshman year and then transferred to Cornell, so I think I have a pretty balanced opinion. No question, Cornell is a top-notch institution that I am thrilled that I attended! I studied ILR, and the professors were phenomenal - they got to know you, provided excellent recommendations and leads for jobs, and of course, provided superb instruction. Job prospects were great after graduation: I had four offers ranging from $50-70k starting salary (plus bonuses). The students are great. What's nice about Cornell is that it's set up as smaller colleges within a larger university, so you get a small-school feel with large-school resources and events. This year the Dalai Lama even came to speak!

The biggest concern people have seems to be around location. For example, there are only about five bars in Collegetown, but I'll say that at NYU, my friends and I just went to the same five bars all the time anyway! This goes for other events as well: when you're in college, you don't really have the time to take advantage of the city you're in, so it doesn't matter that much.

I would highly recommend Cornell to anyone, and am staying very active as a recent alumni. The relationships you build there are priceless, and I think it's one of the few schools where every alumni loved it and is happy to help out other alum.

Cornell provides an excellent education, but the workload is intense. Because of the institution's prominence there are opportunities to work with impressive faculty, but you have to be comfortable functioning at a very large school. The campus is beautiful, with deep gorges on either side. One of the most beautiful places in the U.S. I have lived. The weather can be harsh--freezing winters and many months without much sun. The summers are wonderful though. If you attend you should sublet an apartment and hang out over the summer. The student body is large varied enough that you'll have no problem finding a niche where you fit in socially. I had all the standard friends/drinking/wild dorm room sex kinds of fun there you have when you're 19 years old. Probably no more or less so than any other college. I was a physics/engineering major and got good training in my undergraduate years which has served me since. The biggest downside of Cornell is the tuition. You're paying a premium for the Ivy league brand name, and it's hard to know if it makes sense to pay so much money for such an intangible quantity.

Cornell has been a great university for studying under the best professors with an extremely broad knowledge base, on the forefront of research and publications, and with great opportunities afforded to all graduates and the prestige of having attended an Ivy League school. There is such diversity in the curriculum across all of the seven colleges that there is always something to enroll in to better yourself, and the school is very accomodating if you want to switch majors, even between colleges. The town of Ithaca is sufficient to keep you entertained, but almost all of the action can be found on or immediately around campus, and you might end up never wanting to leave after you get comfortable there.

A wonderful school, large enough to afford enormous opportunity but still small enough to deliver a great education. The weather is Ithaca is terrible, but the academics and social life of the campus do a good job of distracting undergrads from the below-freezing weather outdoors. I would recommend prospective students look into some of the smaller colleges like Industrial and Labor Relations and Human Ecology for a more personal experience.

I wish I could do it over again! Cornell University is the experience of a lifetime. The setting is breathtaking. The professors are dedicated and inspiring. The student body is extraordinarily diverse. The colleges that comprise the university offer an almost unimaginable range of courses. Do not be put off by the remote location. There is more to do than you would find in many urban settings. Cornell is a vibrant community of learners. The only negative may be the climate. By March, you may have enough of grey skies and long for sun. Cornell is also not a university for the faint of heart. The university does not coddle its students. YOu are expected to wrok hard and work independently. Nevertheless, I could not imagine going anywhere else. Go Big Red!

Cornell is a good school (as if you didn't already know that). Be prepared, however, for too much competitiveness than what is healthy if you go in for hard sciences and too much slack in the humanities. Also be prepared to deal with cold weather and isolation. Ithaca is quite beautiful and leaves very few people indifferent--they either love it or hate it. If the above doesn't sound scary, Cornell might be the school for you. The professors and the general level of education is excellent.

An incredible school, with lots of top notch students. This is a true "Value School" in the same way that there are "Value Stocks" in that they are underappreciated to the quality of an institution. Academics, faculty and resources are top notch, the downside is that being located far from any major metropolitan area knocks it down a few notches in people's mind. If Cornell was located say where Vassar is or other slightly outside of a major city it would be ranked much higher. The challenge is that many of the students pick Cornell as a safety school and have the urge to go to a higher ranked institution for graduate school, but on the positive, that pressure meant I learned so much more than I ever imagined I could. This is an ideal place for students who are good, know they are good and don't need the rankings to tell them. This is a top school in the range of topics, and it's not a slouch in the rankings, it is better than the rankings indicate.

The students tend to be down to earth, smart, funny, competitve.
The professors are, however, can be real jerks- nasty, hard to
talk to, elusive during office hours. It was a great place to
go, I'm just glad I'm out now! I would choose Cornell again, but
with the understanding that I have to work HARD for everything- you take away only what you grab for yourself. If you are shy,
and I was, it can be more than a little bit difficult

Cornell is a large university, comprised of several colleges (College of Human Ecology, of Agriculture, Industrial and Labor Relations, Engineering, etc.). Being one of literally thousands you must possess the wherewithal, independence and initiative to navigate through a myriad of educational and experiential opportunities. If you are this type of individual, Cornell could be a rich and stimulating life experience for you. There are a wide range of research and internship opportunities, excellent professors and an amazingly broad course curriculum to choose from. Tips and advice: assess the kind of learning environment that best suits YOU- do you thrive or flounderin a large community, do you do best in a more intimate setting? Do you enjoy being in or near a big city or away from it all? Are you a self- starter or someone that needs more guidance and direction when it comes to evaluating and planning for your future? Definitely visit the campus and get answers for yourself. I do recommend Cornell- it's a prestigious university, with an accomplished faculty, vibrant intellectual community, wealth of educational, research and internship opportunities. It also is set in beautiful Ithaca, a traditional idyllic college setting with gorges nearby, lots of green open spaces. PROS: a WEALTH of opportunities in terms of education, internships, research, access to wonderful professors and a rich course curriculum, vibrant revamped college town including arts center, large fraternity/sorority system, great athletic facility. CONS: staff(professors, school counselors) do not know you by face- if you don't take initiative in determining what kind of experience you want at Cornell, you will not have a great one. You are just a number. If I had to do it over again, I would still choose Cornell!

I would definitely recommend Cornell to potential students. Save up money before attending. If you take out loans, be sure that you are in a program that will guarantee a high paying job after graduation. During the summers get internships for experience. Be sociable and attend functions at least twice a month. Don't buy clothing for cold weather until you get to Ithaca, the material is thicker there.

If you are one of the lucky ones to actually gain acceptance to Cornell University, you should go. Not only will you get an education well worth the money, but you'll have one of your best life experiences. Ithaca is beautiful, the student population is diverse and you won't find the typical "ivy league" snobbery anywhere (well, almost anywhere - pick your fraternity or sorority carefully :-). The only real drawback I can site is the lack of sun. The good news is, you'll be having the time of your life under the cloud cover....:-)
