If you know you want to write for a living public relations is a great career. I would deffinetely recommend it. I would chose this career again and again. The pros are you do what you love and meet exciting, interesting, newsworthy people. The only con would be that you would love your career so much you may over do it.
Newspaper reporting is a great field for people who enjoy a fast-paced job and assignments that vary from day to day. You'll learn a lot, meet a lot of interesting people and become an expert in subjects you never imagined. But your hours will be long, and although you can create your own schedule, you may have to be available to work whenever news breaks. Essentially, you are on call. Though many interesting stories happen all the time, chances are when you start as a reporter you won't be writing about these things. You'll be covering dull city council meetings, and to make the best of it, you must be the sort of person who finds even this small-scale human drama interesting! If you learn to make the boring stuff interesting, you'll be a great reporter.
