I am a Laboratory Technician for a Research Center associated with a University. This job is very rewarding, as would be any job associated with medical research. It feels good to know that I am aiding in finding new treatment or causes for diseases. I don't, however, have a wonderful paycheck. I've learned a lot in this position-- my first job out of college and I have skills that I can apply to many other positions in the healthcare industry. Bad for long term; great for experience. I would do it again. Try it, but as a starting point to bigger and better positions as a Research Associate!
While anesthesiologists have one of the highest incomes of all professions, they typically pay over 20% of their after-tax income for professional liability insurance.
