My job is unique in that I deal more with Mathematics Education then with Pure Mathematics. I teach courses that are geared towards students who plan to teach in elementary classrooms. Many of the math classes that are typically offered deal with algebra and students will often have trouble seeing "where they will use this information." With the group I work with, there is no question where the material will be used. In my classes, the students are prepared for (1) teaching elementary school mathematics, and (2) real-life situations that involve mathematics.
I would recommend my career to others only if they are patient and want to deal with all types of people...all day long. I love it!
I would go into this career again with no second thoughts. It isn't just my career, it is my lifeblood. One of the best things about my job is that I can build someone else's self-esteem. I really can't think of any cons associated with my job.
