After owning a moving company and a small delivery company, I can say that it is a very solid occupation to consider. It can be very lucrative with hard work, like anything. In order to consider this career, ensure that you are a self-starter, very motivated and customer oriented. With these traits and strong interpersonal and business skills, a person can be very successful. As with any business, good health is a must.
Unfortunately for me, I have been plaqued by poor health, yet I was still able to build and grow a successful business. I would do it over again, but I would tell others with not so good health not to.
The pros: Lucrative, steady work, enjoyable outdoor work
The cons: Finding and retaining good employees
What people should know about this business is that it is very competitive, mainly dealing with pricing. To be successful, do not try to gain customers by low-balling. Set prices in the mid-range to high-range and offer quality, dependable service.
