I have been a Licensed Practical Nurse for about 14 years. If I had known then what I know now about nursing I would have run in the opposite direction. I have worked in hospitals, nursing homes, agency nursing, home care and clinic settings. It is all the same. Pro's: There have been people who I did make a difference in their life. You can easily find a job anywhere. Con's: Working weekends, holidays( Your employers do not care that you are missing out on your family time, no one cares-get used to that fact). Family members constantly nag and complain, you get a patient load which is unsafe. Every nurse initials off on items/work they didn't actually do, you don't have the time but administration wants the boxes filled in. You do the same work basically as an RN but make alot less. You make less than a plumber, auto mechanic, heating and air person, postal employee etc. If you do go into nursing, get a bachelors so you can get a desk job right away.
