First off,I'll clarify my occupation. I am in the cable tv installation and repair business.Most cable companies are also in the telephone business so this could be listed many ways. I work for one of the biggest cable businesses in the country. I have been an installer, cable repair on the hardline(on the telephone poles or underground)and in sales.If you do not like small spaces(attics,under homes or under ground) I would not recommend this type of work. If you dont like high place, the same would apply. You usually have to climb telephone poles either with a 30 foot ladder or by gaffing(shanks on your boots). Depending on where you live the pay is either good or can be bad.If you can or like the ourdoors and can handle the prior negatives I talked about then it can be a great job.come rain or shine there is work to be done.Remember this,most people don't think about the public but you will have to deal with them alot in this field of work. You will be in their homes and backyards.I would go into to door to door sales(which I do now ).There is nothing to climb or repair,just sell cable products. The money is as good as you want it to be, I have seen 6 figure checks on commission. It is a door to door selling job.over all I didn't have a good time working there but free cable,free internet,health,dental and 401k were great benifits.peace and choose wisely

Sign Installation: I would recomend this career to any one self motivated, If I had to do this career again I would in a heartbeat.the pros, you are usually given a job or jobs to accomplish for the day and expected to do what it takes to get it done,usually unsupervised. You need to have working knowledge of all hand tools,and be customer friendly. The cons are, you are outside almost all day in the elements,and once a project is started sometimes you need to finish it before quiting for the day,ie:OVERTIME. An eye for art is something helpful.

Retail Facility maintenance is a field with great job secutity. Stores will always need to be repaired no matter what condition the economy is in. I would recommend this career to anyone who enjoyed a variaty of tasks, and is not intimidated by having to research the best solution to a problem. In the retail maintenance field every day brings something new and exciting. The only downside I can see to this career is the typical low pay in the retail industry.

My career is one of being a Slot Performance Supervisor for a large casino gaming company. This career normally takes an electronics degree or something similar to break into. I was lucky enough in the fact that I had come from a Law Enforcement background and had no electronics experience at all. I worked in several onsite job share programs for about 6 months before a position opened and I was selected as a Jr. Slot Technician. The next 3 years would prove to be a major learning experience for me. I learned the trade and art of repairing, maintaining and installing slot machines. Later, a Supervisors position opened and I was selected for this position just about 3 and half years ago. I am now well suited for both lower management and leadership rolls within my company. I like these rolls as they afford me the opportunity to guide and mold a small group of individuals that see themselves as professional electronics technicians. I see the enormous tasks that we are given and guide my technicians to a successful completion of those tasks. A couple of specific things that one needs to know about this job are stated below.

You will be subjected to an environment that contains toxic levels of cigarette smoke. This is one aspect of my job I absolutely hate, I donâ€™t smoke and I have to breathe the smoke and stand knee deep in ashes at times. Also, to have a customer blow smoke in my face. Then not be able to even ask that person not to do it due to company policies that prevent this as the customer is always right no matter what that person does.

You will be subjected to multitudes of beer, soda and body fluids as people are dirty and donâ€™t even go to the rest room when they are stuck to a slot machine like an eye glazed robot. During slot machine moves, installation and removal tasks you will get into these substances as you have to handle the 300+ pounds games in one fashion or another, mostly on the floor crawling around to physically disconnect or connect power and data cabling.

Aside from these detractions the technical side of this job is interesting and has an every day normalcy behind it. It is gratifying to troubleshoot a slot machine that no one else has been able to figure out the problem. Well that is about it on this subject, if anyone is interested in this type of work the pay is not considered to be that great but can more in one location over another. One just needs to research the job market to find the particulars.
