Computer Security Specialists.
What do you think when someone tells you theyre a computer security specialist? not a very hard job right? wrong. it's a tough job. youre basically being payed to be a hacker, but instead of breaking into people's systems, they pay you to keep theyre system from being broken into. you have to think like a hacker. you basically have to learn what a hacker learns, to BE a hacker, before you can stop one.
My advice to someone wanting to be a computer security specialist or CSS, as it will be referred to from here on, is this. if you dont like computers, this isnt for you. at all. if you don't eat sleep and breathe computers, the previous is also true.
If i had to do this all over again, to tell you the truth, no I would be somthing else.
pros and cons? well theres a few pros but alot of cons, but the pros are big ones, so it kind of evens out.
Pros
Quiet working environment
great pay
you have free reign over the network
CONS
boss breathing down your neck
constant wannabes trying to break into where they shouldnt be
if somthing breaks, its your fault

Security toches every element of computer systems, as well as the processes and people they serve. As a security specialist, you can learn about any part of a business process and add some value. If you're a geeky computer science type, there's plenty of low-level detail to be had, while business- or people-oriented types can choose to look at higher-level interactions. Computer security has touchpoints into many other professions, including finance, law, and psychology. As a bonus, right now, the security job market is red-hot, because every government in the world has started to pass panicky laws mandating more security. |
