Industry Description |
The Personal & Household Services sector groups establishments that provide personal and laundry services to individuals, households, and businesses. Services performed include: personal care services; death care services; laundry and drycleaning services; and a wide range of other personal services, such as pet care (except veterinary) services, photofinishing services, temporary parking services, and dating services.
This sector also includes private households that engage in employing workers on or about the premises in activities primarily concerned with the operation of the household. These private households may employ individuals, such as cooks, maids, and butlers, and outside workers, such as gardeners, caretakers, and other maintenance workers.
The Personal & Household Services sector is by no means all-inclusive of the services that could be termed personal services (i.e., those provided to individuals rather than businesses). There are many other sectors, as well as categories of sectors, that provide services to persons. Establishments providing legal, accounting, tax preparation, architectural, portrait photography, job placement, travel arrangement, security, interior and exterior cleaning, exterminating, lawn and garden care, and similar professional services are classified under the category of Professional & Business Services; those providing health, educational and social services are classified under the category of Education and Health Services; those providing amusement and recreation services are classified under the Leisure and Hospitality category; those providing repair services are classified in the Repair & Maintenance sector; and those providing spiritual, civic, and advocacy services are classified in the Religious, Charitable, Civic & Professional Organizations. |
