Recruiting would be a great first step for someone fresh out of college who has no clue what they "want to be when they grow up." You spend your time simply making matches. You get a job description for someone with 10 years of experience with XYZ. You find a person with at least 10 years of experience with XYZ. Of course, that's as simple and easy as it gets. There's lots of negotiating and give/take in between while you are connecting people to companies. Pros: You have insight into different types of roles in various industries, so if you ever decide to leave recruiting, chances are you are going to know what you want to do next. Recruiting positions are generally salaried with commission, the money is pretty good if you work hard. You'll meet many people and often times recruit contacts who will eventually bring business back around to you. Cons: You'll spend a lot of time on the phone. If you don't like the phone, you will hate this job. Looking at resumes all day long can get monotonous. If you don't take time to talk to hiring managers and learn specifics about positions, you'll probably not make a good match if you make a match at all.
If I had it to do all over again, I would have gone to Pharmacy School.

I think it's great, even though I've just started I've learned a lot and met a lot of people who have a lot of influence. I would certainly choose this career again, there is a lot to learn, and im learning quickly (albeit painfully).

Lots of coffee/meetings/chocolate
Lots of money to be made
Talk to people all day
Link into alot of people

Con's
Long hours
Lots of working on computers/internet
Dealing with HR beaurocracy

The most important thing is that anyone should know. This business is about people! Anyone can place an ad in a paper, send a cv and write an invoice.
Real recruiters make the effort to move everyone around them's career move forward, and then let the waves of progress pull them forward.

I work in the human resources department of a healthcare product distributor, and my job is posting online ads, planning and staffing job fairs, and interviewing and evaluating applicants for a wide variety of positions. This career is interesting, challenging, and has a good bit of variety. It requires some area travel to job fairs, but most of the time is in-office conducting phone screens, logging and entering applicant information, or interviewing candidates. On the down side, the job can be frustrating when filling entry-level positions, because the pool of applicants is large and you have to interview a lot of applicants to find ones who successfully pass drug screens, criminal checks, and reference checks. I recommend it if you enjoy working with people, have excellent computer skills, and enjoy coordinating a variety of tasks concurrently. I find I learn something new every single day.
