I highly recommend this career as it is very rewarding. I would chose this career many times over and wouldn't trade my job for anything else.
My advice for those going into this career is to realize that although the pay is not good - the rewards are many and priceless.
The pros are flexible hours and ability to work from home. It is also fresh and new every day and rarely boring! The cons are low pay, time consuming and sometimes extremely stressful.
People should know that it is not always easy to work with others. Sometimes they are cranky, inflexible and demanding. At the same time, you get to know people from all walks of life and that is very exciting!
Human resources is an awesome career.
Human resources is a fantastic career for people who like people. I would recommend HR as a career if you are well-matched for it. The great thing about a career in HR is that it's interesting and there are so many different facets to it that you are always learning. The downside is that, though it doesn't get much respect for being one, the HR field is a very corporate-minded, bottom-line driven area of management. If you aren't interested in saving your company money, sometimes at the expense of doing "the right thing" you are probably not in the right field.
I enjoy my career as a Human Resources Manager. The biggest thing that I would have changed is that I would have went to college for it. There would be much more room for advancement and the pay, of course, would be better. The pros about my job is that it is very challenging. Keeping up with all the changing laws. Keeping the employer and the employees both happy, and the employer profitable. Coming up with new ideas on how to keep the cost of benefits down. Human Resources is a multi-faceted job.
