It's a lot of fun but hard work and dedicated. I would recommend this career if you like to organize and be productive. You are your own boss and you decide what is right and wrong. It's fun and there are many different jobs you can do with graphic design
You need to really enjoy art, not just computers. However you need a good experience (college) in art and computers. I would recommend this career to anyone that enjoys art and working on a tight schedule. I would still choose to work in graphic design, however I would have worked for a firm longer before I started my own. Graphic Design is a "fun" career, however you do have very strict deadlines. Graphic Design involves more than most people think, you need to set up photo shoots, take clients to lunch, etc.
If you really have the talent and just can't help it...then go for it. But if you just want to be a designer, or think it would be cool...but honestly don't have the talent, skip it.
There are a lot of different branches a Graphic Designer can go into, such as advertising + print, packaging and display, etc. It's a high stress career and unless you're devoted to the world of design, I would not recommend it. You need to be constantly immersed in the latest designs, you need to be able to have great ideas at a drop of a hat, and things like that.
Graphics Design is a wonderful field to go into, however you should choose a decent college and seriously consider getting better than an associates degree. Graphic Designers are usually very friendly and enjoy helping others to advance within their careers. If you decided to become a student within the Graphics Design field, you should join your local GD association and attend meetings. Some of the best jobs are found by meeting and networking within the existing clubs and organizations.
Graphic design is a wonderful career for someone that has both a business side and a creative side. It combined both in a way that is very fulfilling. You get to work with clients in a business setting using your creative talents to create profit for others. If choosing to be a graphic designer, the most important thing to know is the design applications. If you decide to work independently or with a company, you will definately need to have a wide range of application knowledge to be able to do the various tasks that may be required of you.
I absolutely love being able to do something I love as my job. I am a digital design artist and I do custom photo art for people. It's a wonderful job and very rewarding. Photographs are something that peiople cherish and helping to make them even more of a keepsake makes it such a joy!
the field is extremely competitive. if I had to do it all over again I would go into finance or something else. The pros are that it's fun. The cons are that fun doesn't pay the bills.
