I am a Financial Analyst for a debt settlement company. The pro's to this job is working from anywhere that you have your laptop, and the con's are that the rules and regulations change CONSTANTLY and you have to be very aware of all the laws. As the economy worsens, more and more people are frightened to do anything so it makes my job more difficult.

Before you enter into this occupation you must be sure you are doing this for the "long haul" to help people....do what you love, and the money will come!

I chose this career, because I couldn't find anything else that I wanted to do. The first year that I was in this field I remember saying, "Man, all I ever do is find and fix problems!!". Then, after stepping back and realizing that that is what analysis is all about, I took a different view of it. I know see my job as a puzzle that I get to solve. This allows me to feel valuable and get real enjoyment out of my job.

It is tough to break in to depending on where you are located. I am in Denver, which does not have a large financial analyst presence. The best way to get in to this career is to send resumes to local Registered Investment Advisors. Unfortunately, these companies are usually very small, so you will be doing alot more than just analysis, however, they are good place to get expereince. In addition, register for your CFA as soon as possible, this certification is well regarded within this career. I would definately recommend this career. If I had to do it all over again, I would have chosen this career earlier, I am a career switcher. Pros of career: always challenging, very interesting. Cons of career: ALot of spreadhseet and math work.

Good for folks who like numbers and a nine to five existence. Creativity helps so it's not just for bean counters. Lots of jobs available in multiple industry sectors.

I work as a financial planner / Financial Analyst for a financial planning firm. I love my job. I would recommend this carreer to others. What we do is put a financial plan together for them. This is like a blue print for the financial future and/or retirement of the folks we work with. This helps them get on track so their "golden years" are just that. We also have the ability to help people with the purchase of their house and helping them to become debt free. When someone reaches the goals they have set up it leaves you with a good feeling for the part you were able to add to it.

The pros are about being able to help people. The cons are it can be a difficult field to get started in. The first few years can be very difficult as far as being able to support yourself. You have to be determined and keep on plugging away.

Finance is a very broad scope. Depends on which scope you are planning to follow your dreams. I chose to be a Treasury financial analyst working for an Oil/Petroleum industry. I am heavily involved in routine/daily challenging task of money market and investment prospects for my company. My advice for anyone who is interested in this field, is to work very hard, must be very accurate and ethical with your routined job. Yes, definitely I would recommend and support who ever wishes to be in this same career path. Its exhilirating and challenging. I would not chose the same job if I had to do it all over again. I wished I was an astronaut though. That was my dream. Pros: Challenging, establish highly commended business networks/contacts, a chance to acquire vast knowledge and many more. Cons: Highly timed pressure endurance, highly routined/operational task, high risks involved and many more.

While my career is in Finance, my current position is that of a manager. I would recommend this career for people who are meticulous and able to multi-task. I would not recommend this career for those who are bored with numbers and can't understand the meaning behind them. One skill that is vital to this position is the ability to communicate effectively, whether at a large scale presentation or just to your management. It doesn't matter if you are a whiz at spreadsheets and mathematics if you can't help your employer understand what the numbers mean and how that impacts your company. It is a mistake for people to believe finance is only about crunching numbers, management is always looking for creative, pro-active thinkers that come up with new suggestions on how to improve the currect processes.

I'm a business analyst and I absolutely love it! Personally I've always been interested in math & solving problems. I majored in economics and cost/benefit analysis was one of my favorite things to work on. In my job I focus on that a lot. I have the opportunity to take a look at the whole business and point out which areas need improvement and then in turn come up with solutions for those areas that need to be improved. Being a business analyst allows me to have a very varied work day in terms of subject matter which I like that since it keeps me from getting bored.

I also like being a business analyst because I'm very well-respected in my team. Coworkers are always coming to me for answers or opinions since they know I'm often able to help solve their problems. It's very rewarding work!

Plus in my position I get to attend a lot of executive meetings which has given me really good corporate exposure and also has helped other skills. For example, I've had to learn how to present to others effectively so that I get my point across and don't appear flustered or nervous. I've learned to think and react quicker since I'm constantly getting bombarded with data questions. And I'm better able to target my findings & data and present it in a way that best suits my audience.

For anyone that is considering a career in business analysis, I recommend that you talk to some people in that field to see if it's something you'd want to pursue. Next thing would be to work on your qualifications. Most companies want a business analyst to have a college degree in finance, business management, or economics. In any job but especially in business analysis there isn't very much room for mistakes. You need to make sure you're meticulous, organized and have extremely good attention to detail.

If I had to do it over again, I would choose to be a business analyst again because I thoroughly enjoy my work. I think the only con to my job is the hours, but I don't think that is specific to being a business analyst.

Since school I've been a web-designer and programmer. But my problem was - I was too artistic, and when Client don't understand your genius idea it's irritating. So, I understood I should leave IT sphere and go into Finances.
Now I'm satisfied. I can work for good salary, or I can gave up working and manage my own assets or open business. Financial Analysts are appreciated everywhere, to say nothing about telejobs. My knowledge of design and programming allows me to optimize my work and decrease costs.

This career is challenging. The part is any business of any real size is going to need financial analysts. So the work can be found just about anywhere. It can be very rewarding at times when recommendations or problems that you have identified have a real impact on the business. Other times it can be very boring. Reporting is often a large part of this job and it can be mind numbing and repetitive. A good aspect of this job is that it can often lead to positions of significant impact in the business. Positions such as CFO and controller are ususally held by people that were once Financial Analysts. Also, with the new regulations on business financial reporting, there is a stronger demand now for Financial Analysts.
