I do think being an Environmental Technician is a good occupation as I travel from my home to the site of work. Actually, it is an special job when compared with most of other careers as I work on-site for ~99%. Fortunately, I live in suburban area, my travelling time usually within 1 hr.
I highly recommand this career for those who don't want to hanging(or imprisoned) in an office from 9 to 5.
The little cons I need to overcome are, actually, it is low paid when comparing with other office dwellers, and work in an unstable environment as I need to work outdoor & most of the time in overnight shift.
If I have the chance, I will go into this career again.
In the 18th and 19th century, hatmakers used poisionous chemicals including mercury in their work. As result, many developed pathological symptons -- an estimated 10% went insane. Hence the term "mad as a hatter" and Lewis Carroll's character, the Mad Hatter.
