Have fun. Make friends. And prepare for a lifetime of success. yes/yes
Many young people worked as cooks and food preparation workers—almost 19 percent were between 16 and 19 years old.
More than 2 out of 5 food preparation workers were employed part time.
Job openings are expected to be plentiful, because many of these workers transfer to other occupations with higher earnings or burn out from the fast work pace and pressure to fill orders quickly.
Chefs, cooks, and food preparation workers who work full time often receive typical benefits, but part-time workers usually do not.
If you like cooking, working for a restaurant is the best idea. It's fun, and you get to meet alot of new people. I would recommend this, although the hours suck and its hot all the time in the kitchen. Depending on where you work, you get some good money for doing something that isn't very challenging.
The things that I like/ really love actually about this career is the creation of food that inspiers people to want to cook or just pay for something that is so tastfull and wonderfull and explodes with flavor in your mouth. Also the ability to use some of the most rare and expensive products in the world to creat dishishes and knowing that people will always be there waiting for a chance to try something they have never seen nor would be able to create themselves. The rush and adrenalin of the the moment in a exclusive dinning resturant when people sit and the orders come in and the craziness happnes. The rush of knowing that you have a hundred orders to compleate and make each one perfect. Having the ability to throw 10 pots on the stove just for one little appetizer but creating a master peice and knowing that there are others in the kitchen that are just as knowldegable with food and flavors and mixing and creating the best thing you have ever tasted in your life. The opptunity to learn other things not just one trade you can shift from breakfest to apps to entre to pastry or menude or expeiditing so many possibilities in the kitchen. The things that I dont like about the career is the extreem heat and wering the chef coat with pants and clogs and just standing behind a line where its constantly a 500 degree stove pumping behind or infront of you. Getting burned by greese, Hot pots cutt by knifes slicers and just exaustion. having to work on every holidays. Also where Ive been cooking haveing to make everything exact or precise or thrown out untill its doen right. The other things are having to constantaly work at a fast pace. what i recomend to others in this career or looking to do this career is to really consider what you want to do. If cooking is just something you like but you dont have a passion for it it probly isint what you should do. Its very demanding and fast paced and can be oainfull at times. For me if i didnt love the creating food that is amazing and truley loveing the food i make and learning more than id not do it.
