Job Tasks

	Take appropriate safety precautions, such as monitoring dive lengths and depths and registering with authorities before diving expeditions begin. Monitor work areas or procedures to ensure compliance with safety procedures.

	Check and maintain diving equipment, such as helmets, masks, air tanks, harnesses, or gauges. Clean equipment, parts, or tools to repair or maintain them in good working order. Maintain work equipment or machinery.

	Communicate with workers on the surface while underwater, using signal lines or telephones. Communicate with coworkers to coordinate installations or repairs.

	Descend into water with the aid of diver helpers, using scuba gear or diving suits.

	Obtain information about diving tasks and environmental conditions. Gather information about work conditions or locations.

	Supervise or train other divers, including hobby divers. Train others in operational procedures. Supervise employees.

	Inspect the condition of underwater steel or wood structures. Inspect systems to determine if they are operating properly.

	Inspect and test docks, ships, buoyage systems, plant intakes or outflows, or underwater pipelines, cables, or sewers, using closed circuit television, still photography, and testing equipment.
