English Language and Literature, General:
Majoring in English literature exposes you to a wide variety of writing styles. As you read literature from other time periods and cultures, you gain a deeper understanding of the world. It enables you to think about and discuss many topics that are relevant today and improves your ability to communicate. I would recommend and English major to those who love to read and who want to become good writers and thinkers. With an English major, you can enter many different careers, but people often expect those who majored in English to teach or write. If I could choose again, I think I still would become an English major, but I would be sure to do an internship that gave me some practical working skills as well. Overall, getting an English major helps broaden your mind, but it does not give you a specific career path. For those needing more direction, I would say they might consider a more practical, career-focused degree. |
