When I was in college, I was told to have a more general major like Economics. While I enjoyed studying economics, I don't think I would choose it again. Now that I have been in the workforce for some time, I believe a more applied major like finance or accounting would be more beneficial.
Economics is a very difficult field if you do not have a natural lack at looking at things from an analytical point of view. If you enjoy using math in real life situations, then you'll like economics. I would recommend studying economics, it gives a good background for many different career paths and graduate schools. The pros are that I can do my own taxes, I'm in a field that I enjoy, and I have a stable, well paying career. The cons are that it is very hard work, and very complicated. There are long hours sometimes. However, I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm glad I chose economics as my major in college.
Economics may look bored in the begining. But after entering you will realize that everything revolves round this subject. If you learn to enjoy this subject you will love to go on study till your end.The subject will fetch name and fame if you use your degree for understanding the economy of our country and contribute your valuable ideas to over come the major problem facing the nation. But at the same time the subject may ditch you as there is a market glut for employment. So Economics is not a vesry promising subject for getting in to the job race.
