The degree will not get you the job. You should go if you are interested in the law, but remember that you also will want real world experience.

  Forensic Science and Technology:

This major was a perfect fit for my inquisitive, detail-oriented personality. If I were to rewind time and choose a major again, I would choose the same major. One thing I would do differently is to choose a specific area of interest to focus on (arson investigation, DNA profiling, etc.). It is very hard to find internships (especially paid internships) in this field making it hard to get on the job training. For this reason extra initiative and/or grad school are very beneficial when looking at the job market. This major includes courses from the criminal justice field, the chemistry and biology fields and archaeology. For this reason, as a student you become well rounded and have knowledge in multiple areas giving you more choice in jobs. Overall I would recommend this major to anyone who always asks questions and can look at a situation objectively.

  Corrections and Criminal Justice, Other:

Make sure you are determined on entering law enforcement, public administration, or Law school because there will be some limitations with the major entering other fields. Also be careful because with the economy going on right now a lot of public sector jobs have had a hiring freeze so jobs would be limited but over all it's a interesting and fun major to learn about because it is a mix of sociology, political sciences, public administration, psychology, and anthropology.

  Criminal Justice / Law Enforcement Administration:

The main thing I would say for people considering this major is to make sure they enjoy the subject. There is not alot of money pouring in for people with this degree, so you have to enjoy your job. Job security is very good since we will always have law breakers in our country. So, only go into this field if you are genuinely interested in the field and not in money. If I could do this over again, I would still choose this major. I am very interested in Criminal Justice and I plan to go to law school so it helps that I already know information about criminal cases. The pros are that you have an interesting career that is different day to day and you will work with all sorts of people. Plus, the job security will always be there. The cons are that the money is not great, and some jobs place you in danger, such as a policeman, probation officer, parole officer, or inmate transfer personnel. If you are planning to go into the policing profession, a degree for this major is good because it will replace experience if you do not have any. And, studies have shown that college educated police officers are better overall officers than policeman who do nto have any college education.

I would definately take this major again if I had to do it over again. The pro is that this major is very exciting and can be customized to fit any criminal justice job field you are looking into. For those of you who know you want to work in the criminal justice field but are unsure as to what career you want, then a broad criminal justice degree will fit you. You can choose to work park ranger, police officer,corrections officer forensics, court advocate, probation and parole,boarder patrol, homeland security, outreach worker and more with just one degree.
The cons of this major is that it is alot of hard work and you must be willing to spend hours researching on the constitution, court cases and more. This is fast paced and sometimes really difficult but well worth it in the end.

I truly enjoyed what I studied in college. I find the subject of criminal justice to be very interesting and something that effects everyone. The only problem with this degree, is that it is more suited for police officers and corrections officers (which I am not either). I was able to get a position in a social service based job with this degree, but there is a fine line of us and them between social service and police and court officials. The degree falls more to the side of police, so people would assume that you have the same feelings and opinions because of this degree. Wish that I had been able to specialize more in my degree program, i.e. criminology or forensics, but it wasn't offered like that at the time.

  Criminology:

Realize that it is not just valuable for prospective law enforcement personnel. I would recommend criminology as I found it interesting and am continuing my education in legal studies at a state university. Doing it this way allowed me to save money and take many classes online while employed. I would do it again. I think a criminology major can be useful in a lot of areas - we are in a very litiginous society. I took a lot of courses in law/liability that could be applied to many fields, businesses, etc. I don't honestly feel that there are any cons to having this degree.

  Criminal Justice / Police Science:

This major is not applicable in the real world. There is a good deal of history of prisons, previously held notions about criminal behavior and vriminal patterns. The helpful classes mostly dealt with legal applications such as offender's basic rights and how not to violate them. For knowledge of tactics, strategy and day to day operating, you will absolutely have to rely on the department that hires you.

The real value of a criminal justice degree lies in the fact tha you made a commitment and stuck to it. While this is not to be taken lightly, I would advise spending this time on a degree that holds a higher value in a completely different area just in case police work doesn't appeal to you in the end.

  Corrections and Criminal Justice, Other:

I would advise anyone considering this major to be sure that they know what they want to do with it. I have found that I didn't really know what I wanted to do with this degree, so I have not been able to find my "dream job." I do recommend this major, but I think it helps to know where you want to go with it. Some cons of Criminal Justice include a very limited number of availble jobs, unless you have a very specialized degree, as well as only a very moderate income in most of the jobs available with only an undergrad degree. Some pros are the ability to help people. I would probably chhose this major if I had it to do over, again, but I would also make sure that I started graduate studies shortly after undergrad.

I feel the major is very important if you plan on pursuing a career in policing or security. If you plan on something along the lines of corporate security I would suggest this major while you also study some IT related courses.

The criminal justice/criminology field is only growing as more and more jails are built around this country. If you go to a reputable school, you're sure to leave with marketable skills and knowledge!

  Criminal Justice / Law Enforcement Administration:

A degree in criminal justice sounded so interesting at first. I enjoyed learning about the techniques used to investigate crimes and about the psychology behind criminals and their behavior. What I am disappointed with is the job market for the knowledge that I gained from 4 years in college. Unless you want to be a police officer, it is not a very helpful degree for attaining a good job. I wish that I had specialized in a different area and had criminal justice as a minor instead of my major. The F.B.I. doesn't even want criminal justice majors. Most employers rather have field experience and they will teach you want they want you to know. Looking back it was not a good choice for me but if you want to be a police officer, it is an excellent field of study.

  Criminology:

I choose this major after deciding business management was not for me, getting a passing grade in some of the economics was difficult. If you like crime or helping people this is a major for you. The school I went to was broad in the classes you could take such as juvenile delinquency, drugs, or prisons type classes. I thought I would work with troubled youth when I graduated but where I lived the pay was not that great and I was making more working in a different field. The cons were no particular emphasis available at the university just a lot of general classes in the criminology field. I would probably still consider this major or a general studies major with a minor in criminology.
