Computer and Information Sciences, General:
My advice for people considering this major is to be sure it's what you really want to do. If you grew up using computers and really love to know how they work, this field is for you. There are a number of career paths you can take with this major. If I had to do it all over again, I would certainly choose this major again. The pros of this major are that it's fairly easy to obtain, if you put the work into it. The cons are that there are more programming jobs available than there are IT administration jobs. |

Computer Programming / Programmer, General:
I recommend majoring in computer science because it's going to be a growing field for a long time. The work is mentally stimulating because when you're programming to a set of requirements you sometimes need to be creative and decide on program flow, what data structures to use, and many more implementation options. |

Computer Science:
Majoring in computer science is a great idea in todays world of emphasis on computers and the internet. It was easy for me because I didn't get my degree until after being in the field for 25+ years. At the end of my career, I was dept chair of computer science. I was told that I had to finish my degree before I could continue as a professor. I had dropped out of college after 2 years, 25 years before. However, my nephew was summa in computer science after only military experience for a couple years. He has a great job now, making a lot of money at a major corporation.

Information Technology:
Information technology was a no brainer for me. I love working with IT applications and networking equipment. If you like working with systems, infastructure and design there are many areas of focus to choose from. I recommend study IT if you realy love it. You will love going to work and when you are there you won't even feel like you are working. Don't forget the pay is, on average, excellent. The con of having a degree in this filed is getting expereience in the field while working on the degree. The pros are the knowledge you will gain is broad and used in many applications. IT is everywhere - every business uses it in some way shape and form. |

Computer Programming / Programmer, General:
Computer programming is a tough, but very rewarding major to study. It requires a lot of hard work and someone that is good with logical thinking. You cannot slack off when studying computer programming, as I have seen many people way behind in their work and dropping out from the class completely. People that are interested in a career in computer programming will be better served to get as high of a degree as they can so that they will be qualified for more programming jobs and have the best chance to get a higher level programming job, which will be very helpful in their career. I can recommend studying computer programming to people that are really interested in computers, good thinkers, and hard workers. The cons to this major are that you will probably not have a lot of free time when working on programming, and also, this major can be expensive to study. The pros are that there are a lot of programming jobs available, and that programming jobs will usually pay very well. Computer programming is very enjoyable, because you are providing programs that can help people out with what would otherwise be a complicated task, and I would definitely choose this major again if I had to. |

Computer Science:
Pros: It is a very interesting field (varies with person) and there is a lot to do in this field. This knowledge gives you the tools to implement your imagination and create something totally new which might change the way people think about a certain approach to a problem/situation/task.
Cons: Long hours in front of the computer, sometimes it makes me feel like a very anti-social person. |

Computer Science:
Most people have a misconception of what computer science is. During my high school graduation at least ten people said they were planning to major and in computer science. Five years later, I'm almost sure that none of them actually ended up majoring in comp sci. Some this can be contributed to people changing in college or finding new interests, but I'm fairly sure most of them didn't know what they were getting into. So my best advice for anyone who is planning in majoring in comp sci, to know what you're getting into, and the best way to do this is to start programming. If you can help it, don't wait until college to take your first programming course. Even if your high school doesn't offer computer science, start learning how to program. Go online and start reading tutorials. I'd recommend python as a good first language.
You have to make sure that you like (or at least appreciate) programming. Programming (an computer science in general) forces you to think in a very percise and consitent way. If you can't enjoy sitting down and cranking out a couple of basic programs, you probably won't like taking classes on data structures and algorithms.
Don't be fooled, computer science is not all about programming. Even if do like programming, that is no guarantee that computer science is the perfect fit for you. Many of the classes deal with a good amount of theory and analysis. A strong math (discrete math more specifically) background will help in these classes. As a computer science student, be aware that a good number of your classes might be notoriously hard and time consuming. The difficulty is probably the biggest down side of computer science.
If you find that you do enjoy programming and you find data structures and algorithms interesting and you can deal with time consuming programming projects, then you're in luck. Computer Science (software development in particular) is a hot major right now. Companies are clamoring for competent developers and willing to pay top dollar for strong programmers.
I'm very glad I chose this major. I enjoy the topics and I was able to find a great job right out of college, and I would definitely choose this major again. |

Computer Programming / Programmer, General:
Computer Science and programming is something I've wanted to do all my life and it was definitely the right choice for me. If you like computers or programming at all, this is definitely a good choice. While it may not be the easiest degree to earn, it definitely pays off. For those who are considering it, you must remember that any Science related course is very math heavy. My brother tried to follow this route but changed to Business when he got to Calculus. I would definitely choose this major again if I had a choice. It's my passion and it's the right choice for me. Some of the good things is you'll always be in demand and the money is good. Computers are the present and the future and companies need people who are skilled in programming them. I guess the only con I could think of is that technology is always changing which means you're never done learning. Even after you graduate, you will need to learn new languages and new skills to maintain an edge in the market. Overall, it's a great major that I would recommend to anyone who has a passion for computers. |

When I took this course, I thought it was a good course to take. If I had to take another course I would probably have taken computer programming instead. Because computer programmers seem to make more money. =) |

Computer Graphics:
Anyone considering computer animation and graphics needs to realize that it is a very intense and tedious career. Hours can be spent on less than one second. I would not recommend this degree to artists who prefer photography, where gratification is almost immediate. Point, click, adjust lighting... and voila! An image. Pros: High paying work with experience. Cons: hard to decide if your temperment is right for this type of work until you learn it. |
