| The guidebook says that TVs are optional. Should I bring a TV? |

You'll need a 42" plasma... nothing less will do.
... seriously, though... after a couple months, you should be completely caught up in school activities and shouldn't need a TV. Between studying, partying with friends, going out, activities/sports/etc., you'll not going to have much time left for watching TV. |

no, I'm sorry. I'm just explaining that you probably won't watch as much TV as you think. I went my entire Freshmen year without a TV and never missed it much.
But, just in case, take one. But.. you shouldn't need one. But... you never know....
(also, most dorms have TV rooms on every hall... that is, if you're going into a dorm.) |

i would say a computer that can play dvds is probably more pragmatic. you can do work on it and also watch movies on it. most dorm rooms are pretty cramped and there is usually some kid of common room with a TV. _________________ Born in throes, ‘tis fit that man should live in pains and die in pangs! I'd say don't bring one, at least for the first few weeks. If you decide that you can't live without your TV and/or video games, you can always bring them up with you at Thanksgiving break. I've spent two years at a tech school without a television, and I don't think there will ever be a point up here where I'd need one. I've found that it's a lot more fun to find other people with TVs who would want to watch a specific show with you- a great way to meet people, and I've always found that it's more fun to watch TV with friends.
If you have a computer with a DVD drive, you're golden. |

come to think of it, you can get a TV card for your computer:

If you already have a TV or can easily get one, Why not?
I didnt get a TV my freshman year and just ended up watching it in friend's rooms.
I you watch TV at home definitely get one because TV may be "evil" if you watch the mind numbing shows but there are actually interesting shows you may regret you are missing. Besides, sure... college life is busy and you wont have much time to glue your self to the TV for hours but there is some downtime and that is when you will wish you had some way of eschewing the boredom that seeps in during those rare moments. _________________ "When you really want something to happen, the whole universe conspires so that your wish comes true"
