  University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is a great college and I would recommend it to any student looking for a college. The area around Stevens Point is unique and maintains a certain charm. The university itself is a great place to learn. With one of the best natural resources areas, the school and city takes great pride in their natural resources and the environment. The art department has some wonderful instructors and resources. The area is a pro, but it is also a con. This school is located in central Wisconsin. This is a unique area, but might not be attractive to everyone.

  Highly recommend this school, and would go there again. Can't say enough good things about it. I graduated fifteen years ago and constantly draw on the things I learned there, even from classes you wouldn't expect, like Literature 101.

Since graduating I've taken classes at UW-Milwaukee so I was able to compare Stevens Point to anouther school. No comparison. The classes at Stevens Point were more difficult, more rewarding, and I felt I learned something.

One thing I wouldn't do again is drink as heavily as I did. In the Eighties Stevens Point had a reputation as a partying school, and I drank almost every night. What a waste of time.

  Financially, for students with Wisconsin residence status, this college is a great choice -- it has the cheapest tuition of any four year school in the UW system, and most of the textbook expenses students pay at other schools (in excess of several hundred dollars) are covered by a once-per-semester "textbook rental" fee of $70. Beyond the price, though, the campus community is small but welcoming. The departments are basically competent, if not spectacular -- with the exception of the College of Natural Resources, which is widely recognizes as one of the best in the country. Personally I've been a bit disappointed with the political climate, which is for the most part apathetic, but that's neither here nor there -- some people want apathy, I suppose. I ended up at UWSP on accident, but I can easily see how it was exactly what many of my classmates were looking for, at the time, in a college. Anyway, it gets the job done and is basically affordable, both of which are (or should be) primary functions of the smaller state schools.

  If you like a small college with smaller classes then this is a good school. All the classrooms are close to one another so it's easy to get to class.

  A small campus in a small Wisconsin City. The campus is around 400 acres with 35 buildings. It consists of about 45% male and 55% female students. The beauty of a small campus like UWSP is that it is east to navigate. The majority of academic and dorm buildings can be reached within 5 minutes via walking. Another great thing is that Stevens Point has no TA's. All classes are actually taught by the Professor's and classes sizes average about 28 students per class so each student will get a goo deal of attention if need be.
Where this UW stands out is in the field of Ecology, conservation and natural resources. It is considered one of the best colleges for fields like forestry. In fact Gaylord Nelson the founder of Earth day taught one of the first Enviromental Science Courses in the nation at UWSP.
The downside of the campus is that while the campus location provides easy access to a movie theater and fast food. In order to do any substantive shopping one must travel several miles, up to 30 in fact to the next nearby larger city of Wausau.
My main reason for attending this University was due to it being near my hometown and the cost of tuition being very cheap coming out to about $2500 a semester (not including housing / meal plan and books) but still a great price nontheless and while I wouldn't say Stevens Point boasts the best undergraduate programs in the country they are certainly on par with the other University's in Wisconsin especially due to the fact that you actually get to spend real time with a Professor.

  I liked attending UWSP. The one thing that in retrospect might have made me not attend school there is their limited availability for finncial aid. They have loans, but there wasn't alot of grants available for students, when compared to what other schoools offered.
I studied psychology, and I enjoyed it. I think they had a pretty good psychology department. I would recommend it to others.

  I would highly recommend this school. The class size is small and the professors are well trained. It was one of the most affordable schools that I applied to. The cons are that it is in a small town so there aren't a whole lot of things to do (the mall is awful), and I think it can be quite expensive for out-of-state and non reciprocity students. Otherwise, I think that this school was a good value.

  Stevens Point is a great school for academics. However, there is not much else to do during the winter. It is a relatively small city and has few places of interest to visit. Many of the students are from small cities as well. You may want to attend a different universiy if you're looking for excitement.
