Overall I enjoyed attending the University of Utah.
Out of all the Universities in the state of Utah, the UofU is one of the most diverse.
The University is situated right up next to a large mountain range (the Wasatch Front) which affords quick access to hiking, skiing and other various outdoor adventure during all seasons.
There are even a skiing class you can take for credit at the UofU during winter months.
The campus is on the foothills of the mountain range - which is good and bad. Everywhere you go is either up hill or down hill, providing good exercise between classes just coming and going. However if you have a physical handicap it could be considered a negative due to the extra strain of navigating slight inclines most everywhere you go.
University of Utah is a great school for students from Utah and all across the country. You are minutes away from hiking, biking, and snowboarding. The quality of the instruction is very good, most professors are doing research in their fields. Salt Lake City also has a good night life. I recommend this school for people who want a more laid back environment than most schools.
Get involved around campus activities. People are friendly and you have to get to know them. Hang around at the Union, start up conversations. Don't just sit in class, but talk to your professors in their office hours. The U is a research institution, and a lot of the staff is doing some pretty interesting stuff. When you get into your upper-division classes, talk to them about the research they're doing or some stuff. You learn a lot while you're in class, and you can learn even more out of class!
This is a very fine school for liberal arts or specific fields, particularly medicine. The campus is beautiful - especially in the fall when the mountain leaves are changing. There is plenty of snow in the winter, so be prepared for the weather. The staff and professors are wonderful to work with, and the courses are wide-ranging and make for an excellent education. There is a good social scene - both on campus and nearby off campus. I loved my time at the U of U, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Although the area has a fairly large LDS (Mormon) population, the University of Utah is more liberal than other universities in the state, and religion does not play much of a role on the campus.
And all-around educational experience at the University of Utah!
