This is a great college to go to. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants the complete college experience. If I had to do it over again I would definitely choose USC. Advice I would give to future students: take advantage of every opportunity it has to offer.
Would definitely recommend USC. I would choose USC if I had to do it over again. Pros: Faculty, courseware, student body, alumni network and global ranking. Cons: Costs and location
USC is one of the most selective universities in the United States,[2] admitting 25% or 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission in 2006. According to the freshman profile, 18% of admissions were associated with legacy preferences. USC was also named "College of the Year 2000" by the editors of TIME magazine and the Princeton Review for the university's extensive community-service programs. In its 2007 ranking of "America's Best Colleges," U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States. Residing in the heart of a global city, USC has established one of the most diverse institutions in the world, with students from all 50 states as well as over 115 countries.
Great campus and perfect weather throughout the year. The surrounding areas off-campus are not very safe therefore living on-campus is a better option than living off-campus. Dining hall food is limited and not very good. USC has great resources and numerous job offerings. Overall and great school and very competative.
There is incredible diversity in this school. Not only ethnically, socio-economically, etc. But also in the level of seriousness. If you want to party your ass off, going to football games, pep rallies, Frat parties, there is plenty of that. If you want to be a hard core student, you will get an excellent education. Try to maintain some balance.
I enjoyed almost everything about the school, except of course, how expensive it was. I graduated with an Economics degree and found it to be a very good choice. My advice to anyone thinking of going to 'SC is: Get lots of grants and scholarships and decide what major you want to pursue as soon as possible. That, in my opinion, will give you the most for your buck and the best experience. USC offers a "small" class environment by splitting the lectures into study sessions with TAs. That is one of the best things about 'SC. It defintely made a difference for me.
While there are some apathetic professors, especially in entry level classes, there are even more who are genuinely engaged in their work. Ask around, and find the professors who bring the material to life; you will not be disappointed. My biggest concern remains that a large percentage of the student body do not bring anything to the table and appear to be merely coasting, this is especially true of the Fraternity/Sorority populations. Nonetheless, I do not regret my decision to attend USC for one second, and having transferred, I do have a frame of reference here!
